True me apparently sold a lot of 5G smartphones this previous quarter.

According to Counterpoint Research’s monthly Market Pulse study, the brand saw an incredible 831% year-over-year growth compared to the overall 5G market, which grew 121% from July to September. Realme’s success in the 5G space allowed it to maintain sixth place in global sales of 5G Android smartphones for the second quarter in a row.

OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi also performed well, showing triple-digit growth in the 5G market over the same period. The four Chinese brands have managed to outperform the market. Apple is still the current leader in 5G despite entering the market in the fourth quarter of 2020 with the release of iPhone 12 series.

Unsurprisingly, Realme and its Chinese peers share a diverse portfolio of entry-level and mid-range 5G models that appeal to a wider audience. In the Philippines, the Realme 8 5G is one of the more affordable 5G smartphones, priced at P10,990 (around $ 215) for the base variant.

Counterpoint notes that much of Realme’s growth could be attributed to its sales in China, India and Europe. In India, Realme’s 5G sales reached an astounding 9,519% year-over-year growth, the highest of any region. The market analyst says “affordability and affordability” will continue to be key factors for 5G sales going forward.

That said, don’t expect to see Realme lag behind the competition, with the company set to offer a solid roster of 5G devices, starting with the slated Jan. 4 launch of the Realme GT 2 Pro powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
